In September 2024 the refurbishment of Shanghai International Formula 1 was successfully completed. As an important milestone in the construction of racing facilities and modern high-grade roads in China, the refurbishment project has attracted widespread attention both inside and outside the industry. 

Shanghai F1 consists of the main track, buffer zone, short connecting track and working car lanes. The main track is 5450 meters long and 14-15 meters wide. There are 16 corners and 9 straight lanes of varying lengths in the entire lane. As the first refurbishment project since Shanghai F1 was first built in 2004, it not only marks the renewed co-operation between Dynapac and China top racetracks, but also endorses Dynapac's outstanding position in the industry's highest-level road construction field. 

Dynapac's Technical Advantage

As the sole equipment provider for the paving and compaction works on the track, Dynapac's fleet of 20 machines were on site at the same time, including not only SD Pavers, the CC4200/6200 double drum vibratory rollers, the CC1200 small tandem rollers, but also three high-tech mobile Feeders, which represent the latest concept of asphalt paving technology from Dynapac. 

The high-precision equipment and modern intelligent construction solutions ensure the excellent results of the track's base, middle and surface layers, which are fully compliant with the international track's pavement standards after rigorous testing by a team of resident experts from Germany's HART CONSULTANT, the internationally renowned construction supervisory organization for F1.

At the beginning of the project, Ms. Annie Bo, Managing Director of Dynapac China, said: “We are very honored to be able to participate in the Shanghai International Circuit project again. Simultaneously, Dynapac has set up an international elite service support team, which has been stationed at the jobsite since the equipment was shipped in mid-July to provide all-around support and guarantee for the contractor, Shanghai Highway and Bridge (Group) Co. With dozens of days and nights of unremitting efforts, the Dynapac team worked with Shanghai Road & Bridge to ensure that the construction was safe and that the customer could apply the maximum advantages of Dynapac equipment to the project. 

Project schedule and future prospects

The refurbishment of the Shanghai International F1 began at the end of July and was completed on 4th September, almost a week ahead of schedule. After the completion of the project, F1 will have a new look and upgraded performance to welcome the international races in the future. 

The application of Dynapac paving and compaction equipment has played a crucial role in improving the work efficiency of the whole project, while the revolution in the construction process and the perfect working effect brought by the new high-tech equipment have also brought a new vitality to the whole project, helping to enhance the influence of Shanghai F1 in the global racing world.
