The busy airport of Olbia on the island Sardinia was closed to air traffic for over a month due to resurfacing work and the construction of a 300m runway extension. Adding to this was the redevelopment of the aircraft parking stands and the passenger terminal.
A Dynapac fleet of machines was used by Pavimental, the Italian contractor. Two MF2500CS material feeders ensured a solid and continuous flow rate of the material to the five Dynapac SD2550CS asphalt pavers, also increasing paver quality. The mix quality also was more homogenous as a result, with less material and heat segregation for the mat. The usage of the feeder and pavers also gave the possibility to extending the taxiway, which allows for lager aircrafts than previously.
As always, time schedule was really tight. However, by using the latest equipment and sophisticated methods, Pavimental was able to finish 5 days ahead of schedule. That included 115 meters of extension work on the required taxiway.
